@gwenthefops@transfem.social Generally (not always) app stores use their own format and waste a lot of space with duplicate instances of dependencies Also repos and control over miniutae are important No app store is gonna let me specifically uninstall a component I don't need It's all or nothing (Linux app stores sometimes muddy this, but I find their ui's clunky)

@ladypretzal@transfem.social @gwenthefops@transfem.social Unfortunately this isn’t exactly a win for Linux package managers, even CLI ones. There are plenty of distros who’s packaging policies shove a bunch of stuff the end user may not want or need into requirements of a package, so to have the one you do need you inherently pull another (hence how people “Get GNOMEd so frequently on Debian based distros) Not to mention that some distros do entirely different packaging methods than the “standard” and that can result in things like every package shipping with their development headers etc inside the main package (like Gentoo) The biggest difference between app stores and package managers is that app stores usually exist on devices where saving space is far harder and more important (phones) and package managers usually exist on devices with easily expandable storage

@gwenthefops@transfem.social it just occurred to me I'm a weirdo that finds cli more easy to use than gui's Oop
