Gamers are not cash machines for companies to exploit. EU consumer authorities are stepping up measures against 9 video game companies, including those behind Candy Crush Saga, Minecraft, Valorant, Clash of Clans and For Honor. Gamers should be able to: 🪙See the real-world price of in-game items 💸Avoid buying more virtual currency than they need ↩️Exercise their 14-day right to withdraw These are some of the principles being addressed. • @EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu For as long as gamers accept proprietary software, they will be exploited.

@EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu good. Also look into forced, hard to skip, in-game adds, especially in small kids games.

@EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu sounds great! Now let's prevent game companies from taking games customers have bought away from them, and if not, at very least ban them from labeling it as "selling" the game.

@EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu EU? Gaming? I was hoping this was good news about the prominent #StopKillingGames going on. But you don't have gamers backs there do you?

@EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu The use of Minecraft in education should also be investigated. Microsoft's attempts to monopolize education in general need to be stopped tbh. Especially since we have alternatives the kids can look much deeper into thanks to their open source nature.

  • @EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu It’s a shame the Commuson’s proposals within the EU Kids Act would do so much to hurt gaming. It’s hard to feel the commission is supporting gamers at all currently.

@EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu right now, any digital store where you "buy" a video game will require you to forfeit your 14-days right to withdraw. If you don't, you can't access the digital license. I understand why they do that: 14 days is time enough to finish most video games, so you could complete the game and then ask for a refund. But private companies shouldn't be able to force users to lose their consumer rights, bypassing the law and painting that as if the buyers accepted it on their own free will.
