The claim that only drama that is hostile-to-the-audience can be considered 'high art' is a claim made by Atheists who are illegally occupying the throne of authority. The rightful heirs of drama are neither nihilists nor atheists. Following the line from Homer, to Dante, to Shakespeare, and to Dostoyevsky shows a lineage that saw the gods as foundational parts of reality, and man's struggle in God's creation as the very essence of their works. Today they would be branded as blatant escapists!
This dichotomy is perfectly mirrored in contemporary science, where the dogma that must not be questioned reigns supreme, and anyone who merely farts in a direction that deviates from scientific materialism is tarred, feathered, and thrown off a cliff to rest with those who dared to point to the overwhelming signs that we live in a universe that was designed by a higher intelligence, when the very history of science is riddled with men who explicitly believed in God.
Underneath it all hides not a difference in taste, education, or intelligence, but a fight over ontological authority, to define what reality is, and what it is not. In the history of human civilization the camp that acknowledges the human soul, the divine, and sees a higher purpose in human existence, was the main contributor to both the arts and the sciences, the other camp is known for millions of deaths through industrial warfare, and for pushing Western civilization to the brink of death.
