DISCUSSION
Key message 1: Temperatures remain much cooler across the area through the weekend, before warming to normal by midweek.
Behind a strong cold front, the season`s first taste of Fall lingers through the weekend, with freezing overnight temps through this morning. A Freeze Warning and Frost Advisory are in effect until 9 AM for a majority of the NC mountains and a portion of northeast Georgia.
Dry cold air lingers into tonight, but confidence is lower on widespread freezing temperatures for the mountains. Depending on which counties reach freezing by this morning will determine any remaining counties that may need a Freeze Warning for tonight. Zones reaching freezing this morning will be turned off for the growing season and no other freeze warnings would be issued. As the airmass modifies, temps start to warm toward normal by Tuesday, with overnight lows remaining cool through Friday.
Gusty winds start to diminish tonight and should remain lighter through the week. Surface high pressure churns over the eastern CONUS and is reinforced with more high pressure throughout the week, keeping rain chances near zero for the next 7 days.
