It's really weird that my nerdy Obsidian passion is now at the focal point of the "second brain with AI" movement.
People who dismiss second brains as mere hype or AI blather don't understand how people like Lee and me, who struggle with brain fog, depend so much on them. They are literally an extension of our thinking and memory.
Without my second brain, I regularly forget what I'm supposed to do. Sometimes I even forget where I place important things. I remember years ago being utterly panicked that I could not find my passport when I actually hid them in a compartment in my apartment.
Tasks I tell myself I'll handle later end up entirely forgotten until I'm slammed with consequences, like a late bill or my phone subscription lapsing. On top of that, juggling multiple projects across work and personal life makes it far too easy to drop balls.
Second brains are immensely valuable, and with AI assistance, they are even more useful. I'm currently designing an executive assistant for myself that will brief me every morning on my priorities, surface projects that haven't been touched in a long time, and help me manage my many commitments.
