I'm a little surprised at Gaby Hinsliff and the Guardian, encouraging the breaking of the #TripleLock on pensions. It's alright for all those with private pensions, savings and investments, but people are already suffering and struggling trying to live on the state pension now. So what's really being proposed is to allow pensions to be cut, taking money away from people who are trying to get by on £230 per week! How tf are people supposed to be able to pay rent and bills and buy food on less than £230??? In reality if the government takes money away from pensions, local government will need to increase council taxes to pay the extra demand for Housing Benefit. Some type of food benefit will also need to be instituted, since food bank donations can't be relied upon to feed all the pensioners and other benefit recipients who won't be able to buy food-the cost of which will increase dramatically as climate heating reduces crop yields. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2026/sep/22/britain-pensions-triple-lock-andy-burnham
