@afewbugs@social.coop I am a big fan of people eating much less red meat (beef/pork/lamb) and much less dairy to reduce carbon emissions, but as a severely chronically-ill person who doesn't eat any meat and who can't do food-preparation because of chronic illness, or tolerate foods that are high in FODMAPS[1], I'd be in serious trouble without eggs and tinned tuna. Cheap plant protein either requires food-preparation that is beyond me due to chronic illness reasons; and/or is high in FODMAPS (eg lentils, chickpeas, while delicious and nutritious, are all very high in FODMAPS.) And low-FODMAP-nuts like macadamia nuts are so much more expensive than eggs or tinned tuna. Macadamia nuts are $92 per kilogram; tinned tuna is $30 per kilogram; free range organic eggs are $18.60 per kilogram. [1] FODMAP stands for fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides and polyols, which are short-chain carbohydrates (sugars) that the small intestine absorbs poorly. Many people with digestive problems due to Irritable Bowel Syndrome cannot eat foods that are high in FODMAPs without days or weeks of excruciating pain, diarrhoea etc.

@Lilysea@aus.social there are some people who for whatever valid reasons can't reduce the amount of animal products they consume, but the majority of people can and collectively as a society we need to reduce the amount we produce and consume dramatically. The ones who can reduce their own consumption and people who can campaign or legislate to reduce consumption generally are who this post, this post isn't meant to be about berating people who need animal products to survive it's about reducing the impact of animal agriculture as an entire society
