@katyswain@mastodon.social in extremely broad terms rather than specific models, you might want to look at Behringer's headphone lineup. Not long ago I needed to get a matched set of the same model to give consistent results for multiple people using the same device (podcast recording scenario of course) and I went for something in about their $40 range and they're "fine".

@katyswain@mastodon.social Will you entertain in-ear monitors? Even cheap ones are very good compared to headphones, because of their superior isolation. I have a pair of $100 Klipsch in-ears I’ve used for over 15 years that continue to be surprisingly good.

@katyswain@mastodon.social Audio-Technica ATH-M50x (150€) bluetooth, but you can also just plug in a headphone cable and then they are plain old headphones. Update: Audio-Technica (i bought a turntable recently and had Technics on my mind lol)

@katyswain@mastodon.social These may not be podcast-ready, but I dearly love my #Sennheiser HD 400S. They're the only ones that never had any cable issues, but the cable can be swapped out in seconds. The sound's warm and dynamic and I can understand voices easily, despite my tinnitus and hearing loss. They're very lightweight and can be worn comfortably for hours. The only fault after years of (home) use are degrading earcups (replaceable too). When new, the Sennheiser had an almost-noise cancelling quality!

@katyswain@mastodon.social I've used AKG K240 headphones since I was told to by a music person. When I said I didn't want to pay for professional level stuff she shot back "they're like £65” and a stern expression. That's about what I paid for them and, surprisingly, I love them. From memory, the cable is replaceable too which is nice. Edit: looks like there's a newer version out now so it may be hard to find the originals. 🙁

@katyswain@mastodon.social price range? in ear / over the ear / on ear? This is a big category!

@katyswain@mastodon.social I've followed budget options from myNoise Recommends - the guy is a sound engineer and those are the headphones he recommend for listening to his soundscapes. My wife loves the Samson ones.

@katyswain@mastodon.social @PurpleJillybeans@kind.social Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro are pretty industry standard and I love them. There’s a few different ohm variants depending on how you plan to power these. Also the 880 Pro and 990 pro if you’d rather have semi-open or fully-open vs closed designs. (Depends how much sound isolation you want or not, or just partially wear the pair over one ear)
