It's occurring to me that while there are plenty of books about humans befriending magical creatures, most of them are sweeping epic fantasies that are entirely set in magical worlds, where the human has always had magic as part of the landscape. I'm looking though for stories about humans from our world who encounter and befriend magical beings, and there are some of those, but I don't know if there are that many.
