  @tzimmer_history Your analysis seems correct given the historical evidence you provide. However it completely ignores US imperialism, its role in shaping American exceptionalism and nationalism not to mention how authoritarianism imposed by the US military on other countries is then used as a blueprint at home (see imperial boomerang). You are only looking half the picture.

The issue is that the average westerner does not want to confront facts that don't reinforce their world view. Also they benefit materially more from not confronting their bias.
