Study: Police Reports Miss 96% of Active Phone Use Before Crashes A new Insurance Institute for Highway Safety study compared smartphone telematics with police reports for almost 17,000 crashes in Connecticut, Illinois, Ohio, and Texas. After excluding passive screen activity such as an untouched navigation display, the data still show a huge gap: phones detected active use before crashes far more often than police documented it.

3 Cybertrucks Caught Fire After Underbody Strikes. Tesla Now Sells a $3,500 Battery Shield Upgrade. I mean, I'm glad Tesla built a fix, but it's sort of tacky to ship a $75,000+ truck and then sell the fireproofing separately.

3 Cybertrucks Caught Fire After Underbody Strikes. Tesla Now Sells a $3,500 Battery Shield Upgrade. The same basic thing also happened in 2013 for the Model S, was investigated by the NHTSA after 2 fires, and Tesla quickly offered a fix for free. I wonder what changed that made Tesla so unafraid of the regulators by 2026? ;)

TL;DR: Between May 2025 and May 2026, Waymo’s recall-scope count of autonomous cabs rose from 1,212 vehicles to 3,791 vehicles. That is more than a 3x increase in the Waymo fleet size in roughly one year, a major acceleration that dwarfs Tesla's faltering Robotaxi rollout.

Well, I would say the test results were conclusive, if nothing else.

Pretty sure that's an F on the Wade Mode test.

TLDR: Tesla will have as many robotaxis as Waymo in the year 2111, if the current growth rate holds (and if Waymo doesn't add a single additional vehicle). So... I'm guessing the Tesla stock price will skyrocket.

TLDR: Since Tesla’s June 2025 robotaxi launch, Tesla has built a 39-vehicle unsupervised fleet, while Waymo has a newly disclosed 3,791-vehicle U.S. fleet. So Tesla appears to be on pace to catch up with Waymo’s autonomous fleet size by the year 2111. LOL!
