    TIL about Buckfast, a fortified and sweetened wine loaded with caffeine sold in the UK. Also known as a bottle of what the hell are you looking at, and with the unofficial slogan Buckfast: Gets you fucked fast, the stuff has been blamed for accelerating the behavior of neds, the Scottish equivalent of redneck yahoos. This is London, 1856. The only people who stand around and argue at a house fire are the two rival private fire departments that both showed up and are fighting it out to see who gets paid for saving whatever is left. (Fire depts were subscription based in those days and you put up a plaque for the company you hired.)

    @Mayana @RadiantEmber Metals all have a smell and a taste. When I was doing maille, I could tell what I was working with just by the scent rising up from the piece. Zinc reacts with human sweat and oxidizes to soft, ashy grey, which is why maille made with galvanized steel does not stay shiny. Many alloys have nickel in them, which sets off skin allergies. Brass is copper and tin, both of which react, so you&amp;#39;ll get oxide and a smell.
