  @cstross@wandering.shop Some of the rail lines (all of them?) in town are dated by the year of production. In our case, 1908. I'd calculated one high speed rail line just paralleling the Trans Canada Hwy main route at 7,476 km (4,645 mi) roughly $1,021,900,000,000 CDN. Not including going through mountains ($300million a mile more), muskeg (see mountains), buying trains and buildings, hiring personnel, etc. So, it ain't gonna happen here.
