I don't think I'll ever really see eye-to-eye with gun rights absolutists, or even people who think we've gone too far with gun restrictions. I don't think we've gone far enough. ... but if you want me to empathize with your position on the topic of wanting less oversight... Talk to me about buying 24-hour Sudafed. It's the closest and most common place where I encounter "This perfectly useful thing I want I can't have because some strangers use it to be shitty...

New Castlevania has you acquire new magic through defeating bosses, copying their powers into tarot deck. Technically, I think that makes it a Megamantroidvania.

When it comes to setting up Terraform configs and kubernetes permissions, I cannot over-emphasize how valuable the "It can type the same dumb magic string and variants on the string over and over again dozens of times with zero typos" feature of LLM agent frameworks is. Yes, this is a subset of the larger "LLMs are really good at navigating bad abstractions" truism. #llm #opencode

Me any time I'm forced to use an office productivity tool. ... Seriously though, if somebody gave me "emacs but with access controls and multi-tenant," I would never want for anything else. (This post inspired by having to look up the date of tomorrow like an animal instead of just typing Ctl-c . + 1 enter). #emacs #atlassian

I'm trying to decide if I want to do an actual blog post on my perception of LLM code generation in in industry or if it would just be adding to the pile of hot takes in a space with so many already. The thrust of it would be that companies who employ software engineers and aren't in the business of selling software have always been more interested in the solution itself than the method, and our industry and the people in it have been struggling with that fact for my whole career (Agil...

When you lose someone who was carrying the torch, it really hurts. Even if you didn't know them well, or at all. Because it's not just the death of the person, it's the hitch in the race itself. It's the feeling that things just got a tiny bit harder... And they were already so hard. The best way to honor them, after you've taken the time to sit with the grief and give it its due... Is to look at the torch. Remind yourself why it's worth carrying. Why you cared. Why you...

Thinking about the era of technology where the easiest way to display images was to take all the air out of a tube and point a death ray at your face. It's fine though. There was a thin screen between you and the death ray that caught all the death and turned it into pretty colors.

What the news is saying: "WE WILL NEVER TRANSLATE LINEAR A BECAUSE ANTHROPIC GROUND THE ROSETTA STONE INTO A FINE POWDER." What is actually happening: "We took one of the 3,987 copies of 'Head First Git' that Borders failed to sell before they went out of business and pulped it, and now Claude is slightly better at merging repositories."

Well, it finally happened. Re-bought a game on Steam that I bought on the Epic store ages ago because Epic is just... Not worth launching. They had a good go of it, but my patience for them to at least get reliability-parity of the UI with Steam ran out.

Hm. "Jellicles ask because Jellicles dare." I wonder what's 'daring' about asking who is going to the Heaviside Layer? ... I mean, it's cat heaven. So you get there by dying... ... and the candidates are a lazy house cat, a couple of strays who would get killed on sight if they got caught raiding people's stuff, a cat on the verge of death due to age, a cat who can't stop eating, the mouser at the local theater with a neurological condition, a cat who gets us...

Reading Steve Yegge's article on how he uses AI to program, and one thing that stands out starkly to me: he's spending about $2800 a month in tokens by buying multiple Claude Max accounts. There's a somewhat un-remarked-upon aspect of the hacking experience, culture, lifestyle, what have you... The tools are cheap. Yes, the computer itself is a base cost to get involved, but we've driven the price of having a computer into the ground by ubiquity. And once you have one, tradition...

Don't get me wrong, Neuromancer on AppleTV sounds... Fine. It's fine. It looks good, it's fine. ... wake me when it's Snow Crash. I want to see someone take Hiro Protagonist, a guy who owns every gas station and turns dogs into cyber security drones, an Amazon delivery girl who harpoons limos and skateboards behind them, and the mafia owning Pizza Hut very, very seriously.

AITA for still being frustrated at HDMI? This is the standard that displaced all the other alternatives and... It sucks. It sucks on toast. The wires are bulky and break all the time, and we decided we'd plug laptops in with it when nudging the wire the wrong way can just completely wreck up the system's ability to establish a video feed.

I find fascinating the process of anthropomorphizing large language model AI from a human behavior standpoint and, having both watched people interact with it and interacting with it myself, I would even say it's kind of the right approach as long as you remember that it is fundamentally not human. What it is, fundamentally, is a very complicated mathematical formula recursively operating on its own output given a seed input and feedback on whether its output is correct as per a human obser...
