🎬 The Tunnel (2011) I just watched The Tunnel Very much in the spirit of blair witch. Wasn't good or interesting in anyway and would not recommend you waste your time on it. ⭐ (1/5) 🔗 https://michaelharley.net/watching/2026/09/27/the-tunnel/ #Review #Cinemastodon #Movies #MovieReview

From my blog, with a poll at the end: https://michaelharley.net/posts/2026/09/25/indieweb-link-sharing-which-method-do-you-prefer/ Link sharing is a fundamental piece of the IndieWeb. It's a kindness we show to other bloggers and sites. We share things we find good or interesting so that others may enjoy them, and it provides the author a bit more reach. I notice there are two main ways people tend to share links. The first is as link dump posts like the way Andre does it. I assume they s...

🔖 Bookmarked: Why Westminster Doesn’t Get Digital Sovereignty There is a distinct kind of modern exhaustion that comes with trying to engage in civic life as someone who actually cares about where data lives, how infrastructure functions, and why outsourcing our entire digital existence to a handful of American tech monopolies is a catastrophically bad idea. Outsourcing our entire digital existence to a anyone is problematic. The whole cloud first movement of years past is a bad idea if people...

📺 Star Trek: The Next Generation S2 (1988) I just finished Star Trek: The Next Generation Season 2 Much of the guidance I see says to skip seasons 1 and 2 of TNG because it doesn't get good until season 3 but I must say, season 2 had several good ones that I remember. You can see the shapes of Worf coming and you get Data's character refined as well. I'd say people can skip season 1 and not miss any character development or any story line elements that matter but season 2 has some...

🔁 Reposted: Star Trek Voyager: Homecoming Neat, I didn't know there was a comic! I agree btw. I wish there would have been at least one Voyager movie, though I don't know what type of movie that would be. https://brandons-journal.com/post/star-trek-voyager-homecoming #Reposts #StarTrek #StarTrekVoyager

Man how on earth does littleFedi run so much more efficiently than Mastodon? Like, what am I missing here? I can self-host littleFedi but I wouldn't dream of taking on self-hosting Mastodon. I'm fiddling around with it here: @michael #littleFedi #Mastodon #Fediverse

📺 A Killer Story S1 (2026) I just finished A Killer Story Season 1 True crime shows are often not very good but this one was well done and there is a real conclusion, I just didn't like the story that much, such as it is. ⭐⭐⭐½ (3.5/5) 🔗 https://michaelharley.net/watching/2026/10/05/a-killer-story-s1/ #Review #TVShows #Series

Digital sovereignty is more than just avoiding US big tech. I hope the lesson we all learn is that we shouldn't allow ourselves to get locked into a platform. We as users, organizations and countries should highly value data portability and interoperability. Don't just move to smaller European specific cloud services. Don't just move to small tech companies because they're the little guy. All these little guys want to be big guys. That's just how capitalism works. #DigitalS...

I really hope the Europeans don't just create their own versions of shitty American companies like Amazon/Google/Apple. I know there must be a third option where normal people can have control over their own things more and there's a default right to privacy. Will you guys PLEASE make #XMPP a thing. I have no one or no reason to use it and I want to.

I think we're all pretty tired of reading and writing about dumb AI, but I feel I have a nuanced view on this that is not articulated much in the circles I follow. Lumping all AI-related things into the same category is throwing the baby out with the bathwater. https://michaelharley.net/posts/2026/09/21/re-ai-is-not-just-a-tool/ #AI #DigitalSovereignty

The Zooz Motion Dimmer is the smart switch that does more, automatically. It combines a dimmer, motion sensor, and ambient light sensor in one device, so lights turn on only when someone is in the room and only when extra light is actually needed. Y'all! I have a dang flower in one of my 20 longs. I'm shocked. This tank is running fine. Animals seems healthy but I'm not really doing anything special. This makes me feel like this tank is exactly dialed in though if this plant is so happy it wants to flower!
