Just doing some work on my #RIPE #Atlas probe and had a look at some of the stats. So it looks like if I was doing full recursive lookups instead of using #quad9 , the following root-servers would be the most optimal to use at 11ms: d.root-server.net e.root-server.net f.root-server.net h.root-server.net I might have to try a few setups out. #DNS

@Shawn_Brink@techhub.social Yes #IPv6 . Now North America just needs to sort their shit out and get on the IPv6 train. Even AWS has learned that IPv6 is needed. RE: https://techhub.social/@Shawn_Brink/117514058219844555

Don't know if #FreeBSD have built and pushed #PHP updates to the Australian cluster because I'm only seeing 8.5.11 available. FWIW, #OpenBSD has 8.5.12 ready to go for users.

LNL 403, you were basically in the BSD camp, without actually thinking it. Anyway, OpenSSL was a shitshow. OpenBSD saw that after heartbleed and created LibreSSL and yanked out all the shit that shouldn't be used in the modern day as well as fix the poor design choices. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GnBbhXB...

Sorry peeps, looks like the instance copped a barrage from scrapers, exhausting soacceptqueue. That has now been liberally increased without stability issues. I'll keep an eye on things over the day.

General question to BSD Lab users. What would you like to see this instance run on, FreeBSD or OpenBSD? Not saying it will change from FreeBSD that it is currently on but it would be nice to see differing opinions. #bsdlab #BSD #FreeBSD #OpenBSD

Not sure about you @oxy@social.bsdlab.au but I get pretty poor speeds from #FreeBSD #pkg . I'm trying to work out where the bottleneck is because it is frustrating for a large fleet compared to #OpenBSD and #AlmaLinux updates: [223/223] Fetching mariadb118-server-11.8.8: 100% 51 MiB 2.9 MB/s 00:18

So #Telstra was feeding all their network gear straight from Stratum 1 servers. If they had intermediary Stratum 2 servers in play with constraint facilities, the bad 2006-reset Stratum 1 server would have been ignored, saving the network from complete disaster. #mytake https://www.theguardian.com/business/2026/jul/17/telstra-missing-software-update-undocumented-design-change-outage
