Moomin cups at Breadtop - My friend Keith texted me yesterday to ask if I’d seen the special reusable Moomin coffee cups at Breadtop. Ummmmm, what?! Thankfully they still had a couple at the Broadway Breadtop. (They were sold out of the special mooncakes though.) Thanks Keith!! https://www.web-goddess.org/archive/95629

Computers are the worst. - My site was running like a dog today because I was getting hit by some scraper that was trying to grab every single post, so I turned on WAF rules in Cloudfront which solved that problem (but will probably cost me a stupid amount) but then I suddenly couldn't upload any images so obviously one of the rules was blocking that but which one? which necessitated an hourlong dive into various logs until we narrowed it down to the exact rule and turned that off so now...

Overgrown - I normally skim through the Boing Boing RSS feed pretty quickly, but I did a double-take when I recognised @devdevcharlie in the screenshot! (https://boingboing.net/2026/10/28/chrome-extension-lets-weeds-overgrow-your-neglected-browser-tabs.html) They linked to a fun Chrome extension she built that fills your abandoned browser tabs with weeds. I love that Charlie is getting back to building cool stuff online. I remember seeing her control a drone with a Leap Motion back in 2014, and...

Threadloop - Any sewists on Threadloop? It's meant to be a "Ravelry for sewing," of sorts. I set up a profile (https://threadloop.app/members/web-goddess) and added the shirt I finished yesterday. I'm impressed with the pattern database, which found nearly everything in my library. Interestingly though, they don't even attempt to create a fabric database. You can catalogue your stash, but it's all just user-generated with no attempt at creating a...

Sydney Open at the State Library - 500 visitors, several glasses of champagne, and one luxurious bath later, I’m happy to declare Sydney Open 2026 over! Thank you to the 11 amazing women who devoted part of their Sunday to welcoming visitors to one of our city’s premiere cultural destinations. ❤️ https://www.web-goddess.org/archive/95646

Recent media - I neglected to blog some media we recently consumed. I read Margaret Atwood’s The Penelopiad, which was a nice counter to all the heroic Greek myths we read and saw this year. My review on Goodreads: I expected a retelling of The Odyssey from Penelope’s perspective. I didn’t, however, expect it to be narrated by […] https://www.web-goddess.org/archive/95649

Finished! Periwinkle shirt in vintage cotton voile - I made my second Periwinkle shirt, this one out of a vintage cotton voile I got at the Destash market a couple weeks back. It’s a little drapier than the Tana Lawn, and it’s also a little more sheer. I was worried that you’d be able to see the design through the two layers of […] https://www.web-goddess.org/archive/95660

We should all have the delusional self-confidence of the mediocre dude recruiter who just spammed me with a PHP developer job opening, 17 years after I last had that as a job title. 🙄

This is a post about AI. - I’m on a re-read of Pride and Prejudice and had to stop for a second at this little bon mot of Darcy’s: > “The power of doing any thing with quickness is always much prized by the possessor, and often without any attention to the imperfection of the performance.” Quite. https://www.web-goddess.org/archive/94493

Handy friends: Our Corten steel fire pit collects water when it rains, so we need to drill or cut a hole in it somehow. Our normal drill was not up to the task. What do we need? Relatedly - anyone in Sydney want to lend us an angle grinder? 😂

Cassandra as a Service - I’m sure there are those who think I do nothing but trawl LinkedIn* looking for bad AI takes to comment on, but honestly, I have better things to do with my day. Instead, other people send them to me. It’s really ramped up over the past couple of months. The links come from people that want to express their disagreement with the post but have to worry about their future employment prospects. I get it. These folks know that I don’t care about that anymore. So if I come in...

Snap Send Solve needs a category for, like, SOCIETAL VIOLATIONS. And then I would have used it to report the old guy who spent 15 minutes flossing his teeth just now on the 370 bus. 🤮

This is the worst timeline. - Netflix is using an AI-generated Gene Wilder voice in its Willy Wonka reality show. (https://www.theverge.com/streaming/959684/netflix-wonka-golden-ticket-gene-wilder) As a Roald Dahl expert (https://www.roalddahlfans.com)—and living human being with eyes and ears and a brain—I hate every single thing about this. Also, it doesn’t even sound like him. Wilder’s and Dahl’s heirs should be ashamed. https://www.web-goddess.org/archive/94165

Voted! - Just voted in my first ever Indiana Democratic Party primary election (https://www.in.gov/sos/elections/). I did my research on the two candidates for Representative, and honestly I liked them both. I chose the one that I felt would better represent me. Then I discovered a second page on the ballot with 60+ names for State Convention Delegate at Large, with instructions to vote for no more than 41. Whaaaaaat. So I spent some time googling. For most of them, I couldn’t find anything at a...

I love a good heist. - Annabel Crabb’s “History Or Hoarding?” (https://www.abc.net.au/listen/programs/history-or-hoarding-with-annabel-crabb) podcast about the State Library has turned up a fascinating tale of a larger than life Kings Cross restauranteur and numismatist who pulled off an ambitious coin heist (https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-05-06/david-gee-most-ambitious-coin-heists-australian-history/106639898) right under librarians’ noses. I wonder how many of them they managed to recover?...

WKRP - Finally Livin’ On The Air In Cincinnati (https://www.metafilter.com/213084/Finally-Livin-On-The-Air-In-Cincinnati) – The Oasis, a Cincinnati-based radio network (94.5 FM, 97.7 FM, and 106.7 FM) recently learned that a much-smaller North Carolina station was selling its own call letters as a fundraising move. When they learned those call letters were “WKRP”, Oasis instantly bought them – and thus WKRP is really now on the air in Cincinnati (https://www.wherethemusicwent.com/). I absolutel...
