Against the Current ends its run. What a gorgeous Cdrama. It has given a boost to the actor, Liu Xueyi, whom many recognize as a good actor who doesn't “play traffic games” to succeed. The drama’s success also sends hope to those who have been wishing for the data and traffic-driven idol drama model to die. (Liu Xueyi and Tan Songyun are not traffic actors.) And it may seem that there are signs that Chinese audiences are tired of Cdramas with weak scripts and actors who are chosen purely for the size of their fandoms.

@liztai@hachyderm.io I just finished ***Against the Current***. I agree it was marvellous (despite my quibbles with the lack of space to breathe in the final arc). It had a satisfying closure and epilogue which has been an ongoing issue with many of the Idol dramas this and last year. Hopefully, other directors and scriptwriters will take note. It’s great success in attracting both linear and streaming audiences in China hopefully will go some way in convincing investors and platforms to reconsider the traffic/idol drama model. #cDrama
