Avoid anti-goldfish language! Be aware that when you accuse someone of having the memory of a goldfish, you are actually saying they have a prodigious ability to remember places and the overall spatial layout of their territory, allowing them to expertly navigate their habitat over time in a changing environment! Given that goldfish can live for decades, it is not surprising to me that they'd use remembered landmarks to navigate their home. This is better than me, sometimes even getting lost in my own hometown. https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1089/zeb.2006.3.157

Seems especially impressive in species that live in varying currents. @dantheclamman@scicomm.xyz

@dantheclamman@scicomm.xyz Oh, they are not dumb. Use to have a large tank with several fancy goldfish. They would get very excited when I came in the room and swim to the top looking for food. However, they’d ignore my kids and were lukewarm towards my wife and mother-in-law.
