lol. An unprecedented leak of Department of Homeland Security records has exposed details of more than 41,000 employees or contractors who work for the department and its constituent agencies. The records include email addresses, phone numbers, and office addresses, but also references to internal systems and sensitive information on undercover and surveillance programs. In all, the leak provides a map of how DHS is organized and how it operates. https://www.wired.com/story/massive-leak-exposes...

lol. CNBC: As Anthropic barrels toward a potential $2 trillion market cap on the Nasdaq, one research firm is valuing the artificial intelligence company at a mere $150 billion and says Wall Street is about to face an "unprecedented test of investor gullibility." In a report on Tuesday, independent financial research provider New Constructs called Anthropic's upcoming offering the "most ridiculous IPO of 2026." To reach its desired valuation, the firm estimates Anthropi...

More progress on our #solar upgrade. Window blocked in, outlets moved, stub out for future secondary solar panel conduit completed. And the cement board is all up. The space is mostly ready to receive the new batteries.

Why is Altman et al not in jail yet? If your dog bites someone, you are liable. If you know your dog is a threat and you don't take proper steps to contain it, it's a felony and you go to jail. The only regulation we really need for AI is very simple and easy. One sentence would do it: The Owner of any AI system (defined as the person/company management/investors/etc who pay for it's electricity and operation costs) are heretofore legally responsible for any and all actions taken...

lol. NYMag: On Friday, President Trump, upset that reporters are not covering his presidency as the unalloyed triumph it obviously is, banned CNN, Politico, and MS NOW from the White House. The sudden prohibition meant that CNN, which was the network scheduled to provide TV-pool coverage on Monday, could not do so. And in a rare act of press solidarity, no other network, including Fox News, stepped in to replace them. This meant that the White House was stuck providing its own live video covera...

I find this rather frightening, and fear something similar coming to our dictatorship-in-training-wheels. This is one of the reasons you should loudly shun any business that goes cashless. payment for goods & services is one of the prime vectors for forcing dystopian shit like this on the people. Research shows tens of millions of Russian people are being forced to use the 'super app' that amounts to ‘backdoor’ on their device https://www.theguardian.com/world/2026/sep/18/russian-...

rather pleased with the energy consumption of my 5.1cu ft Midea chest freezer. averages to 26 watts. It's been on for 66hrs now, and consumed 1.77kWh. 0.6kWh/day. The energy guide says 218kWh/yr. which would be 0.6kWh/day. spot on. #OffGridLiving

Yikes! A Montana man walked 10 miles to safety with a trekking pole speared through his torso after a fall during a hiking expedition on the state’s highest mountain. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/jul/27/montana-man-hikes-10-miles-fall-trekking-pole David Cifaldi slipped on rocks close to the summit of the 12,803ft (3,902 meters) Granite Peak during the hike on 20 July with two friends. Good lord. Went down to town to re-stock supplies. One of my staples is Mama Celeste or similar cheap individual sized frozen pizzas. They're typically 4 for $5. Now they are $3.50 each!?!

The first record I ever bought was a 45rpm single of The Electric Prunes - I Had Too Much To Dream (Last Night) at a garage sale with my mom. The title and band name was very intriguing to me as a 7 year old. This started a lifelong love of 60s/70s garage punk/psychedelia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-kVFfKezVo

@ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org I would actually recommend starting with his 1992 release The Future. Probably the most accessible of his albums and quite prophetic. A lot of the album was used in the movie Natural Born Killers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VAxwimExn0&list=PLQ3tnR5_h9v52mGjjJ7LbOCsI0sH6b2GX

Went scouting willow stands for an upcoming ceremony. Also decided to start getting some of the standard Los Padres native plants moved up to our part of the mountain and established. For some reason we have no Matilija Poppy, Monkey Flower, or Buckwheat growing on our property, but it's abundant just a few miles down the road. Hopefully these will transplant ok.

Getting the landscape ordered in front of the trailer. The flags mark a level contour where I want a swale to slow and sink water coming down from the hillside. Below the future swale everything is leveled just a few inches below the deck level. After sheet mulching with cardboard and mulch the grade will be level with the deck. Rocks from along the 33 will create the retaining wall for the swale. #Landscaping #OffGridLiving

Hooray. Got a ventilation fan installed yesterday for my solar cabinet and powered off the Aux output of the FlexMax60 charge controller. Automatically turns the fan on/off when the battery is over/under 26.7V. It would be better to have a temp sensor trigger, but that would require extra gear and a relay. As summer progresses and it stays warmer longer into the nights, I can lower that voltage setting to have the fan stay on longer and fire back up earlier.
