Have been busy preparing for a trip. Now hoping that lugging luggage hasn't knocked but my back as I arrive in Denver.

@brad@toad.city I read an article by someone who was being asked for advice by rich peppers about how to keep their bodyguards loyal in the apocalypse and about how the community values etc fell on deaf ears. Also how they could prevent societal issues with their resources. But no, deaf ears.

I picked sweetpotatoes last Sunday and, indeed, i think the cold did them no favors. (After reading about chilling injury and looking at photos, yup, chilling injury.) I'm dehydrating a few trays of shredded sweetpotato. One symptom of chilling injury is the sweetpotatoes oxidize faster: yup. The shreds aren't appetizing looking, but probably will be OK in a casserole or something. Hate to loose the harvest. Well, "harvest".

Welp, Duke power doing rolling power outages in NC. Instead of dehydrating the next batch of shredded sweetpotatoes, i guess i'll just put them on a tray outside and let them freeze.

Since I can blame asthma, I did not go out in the cold to clear the invasive autumn olive or the downed treetop but shopped for * a plum to polinate my Chickasaw Guthrie plum, * select native hazelnut to hangout with my species nuts, and * pondered ordering Mayhaws from Ty Ty (TyTy has a sale 2O% off ending tonight. Mayhaws have lots of pectin! Mayhaws can grow near black walnuts! ). Kinda feel miserable and not looking forward to work tomorrow.

Ah, flibertygibbet. I just realized where i planned to plant the mayhaws is the driest soil on the property, the one place where i saw lots of drought stress this year. I figure it's also the sunniest, thus the drying out. It's near where the passion fruit grow near a black walnut... and maybe that's why the passion fruit all set late in the year and didn't ripen.

NYTimes reports that Representative Tom Cole of Oklahoma, a senior Republican, said, "This is the guy that got us here [Kevin McCarthy]. We don’t intend to leave Moses on the other side of the river. He’s coming with us." So... Moses died outside the promised land and was buried outside it. Moses didn't cross the river Jordan to enter the promised land. I don't know if this river metaphor is some subtle signal or just biblical ignorance.

Filling in my rain gauge value this morning (0") i had a few moments to look at the national Map. California reports are as yet sparse, but this was the highest when i looked -- and i love the reporter's enthusiasm. https://www.cocorahs.org/ViewData/ViewDailyPrecipReport.aspx?DailyPrecipReportID=760cbb37-8d07-45a2-85f9-3561fa4f6863 And they are a diligent reporter, with so many zero rain reports.
