Trump himself has admitted he considers the costs of frivolous suits money well spent because the cost & stress of litigation makes the target’s life hell even if the suit is hopeless. Now he doesn’t even have to pay out of his own pocket; we do. RE: https://bsky.app/profile/did:plc:efpytyxmwow5ffwi3dphhrlq/post/3mzjlum73f224

This is the same problem they have at the staffing level. The problem with winning power by pandering to the electorate’s crassest, dumbest impulses is that you tend to repulse the sort of smart, competent people you need to actually run stuff. Not about to make an account on one of these sites, but it occurs to me there’s some easy money to be made on delusion arbitrage. Just pick a bunch of stuff that’s objectively 90% likely, but 30% of people will bet against because they’re stuck in an ideological bubble. This may be overly optimistic, but if Republicans start recognizing Trump more as a liability than someone they need to cower in fear of, that could be in itself almost as significant as the Dem victory.

Absolutely the most satisfying result was seeing some of the sleazebags who leaned hardest into racism and misogyny decisively repudiated by voters. RE: https://bsky.app/profile/did:plc:ldb6hx3aef2vhrctg2xdepjw/post/3mziv6vnrkc27

The more I think about this the more irritating it is. It’s not just feckless, it’s actively & entirely voluntarily adopting the inevitable Republican talking point that accountability for rampant criminality is just “getting even.” RE: https://bsky.app/profile/did:plc:ofbkqcjzvm6gtwuufsubnkaf/post/3mzifwjlwos23

This is a fundamental asymmetry that aids Trump & co: People & institutions believe that if they anger or defy Trump, there’s a good chance every instrument of federal power will be deployed to make their lives miserable. They don’t think Dems will do that. And they’re correct both times. RE: https://bsky.app/profile/did:plc:7umvpuxe2vbrc3zrzuquzniu/post/3mzgguebs5227

I wouldn’t have thought this level of media illiteracy possible, but I guess maybe if you are yourself sufficiently whiny and entitled, you might take Anakin’s constant pissing and moaning about how UNFAIR everything is at face value rather than as a symptom of a character defect. I think a nontrivial part of this is that the Internet (and now AI even more so) has given us all the superficial impression of being able to learn anything by “doing our own research.” But, of course, that’s an illusion. Usually it’s a classic “a little learning is a dangerous thing.” RE: https://bsky.app/profile/did:plc:rb5eyqmndrw2bkepna5uaswk/post/3mzeodysjb227

It is genuinely a little surprising, given that they obviously have no qualms about attempting to interfere with domestic elections, that they seem to be doing it in such a haphazard and ill-thought-out way.
