No forgivesness for fascists ever.
I could go with "reduced consequences," though, for the ones who testify against other fascists.

After WWII, we rounded up the Nazis and put them behind bars while we figured out how the Nuremberg trials were going to work. We didn't worry about how the defendants may not have done anything illegal under German law. We knew that crimes against humanity had to be punished, and we built a system for doing it while the Nazis sat in jail.
We need to round up the regime and all its collaborators, put them in cells, and leave them there while we stand up a tribunal.

They need to understand that only the ones who testify for the prosecution can hope for eventual release from prison.

We have a couple options. One, we add this to the charges Trump faces in a special Nuremberg-like tribunal, where immunity and Supreme Court precedent don't apply.
Or, two, we try him for violating 18 U.S. Code § 597, in a regular Article 3 federal court, but AFTER dragging the six corrupt Supremes before the special tribunal.
We should reject the idea of letting him get away with anything.

"The report noted that the watch is a 'curious' collector's piece because Rolex no longer makes custom watches."
Now I want to know when these custom watches were made. Who here thinks Trump is too classy to give his minions a fake Rolex?

I have a question about traveling in privacy with an electric car.
If I'm using a car with a gasoline engine and I want to travel without being surveilled, I pay cash for fuel (among many other measures).
It occurs to me that I can't charge my electric car in public without a credit card. This means that the government could theoretically track me, or even stop me from recharging completely (by invalidating the credit card).
Have others thought about solutions to this?

Now that billionaires can buy a Supreme Court that will hand them the unrestricted right to buy elections in their own interest, I no longer feel the need to phase in a wealth tax gradually.
Let's tax 100% of the assets over a certain amount, so there are no U.S. billionaires after the first year.

It didn't do a bad thing "on its own."
That's like me parking my car on a hill and not setting the parking brake, and when the car rolls down the hill and kills someone, we say "The car rolled down the hill on its own."
Yeah, because the human who was responsible let it happen. This is not an AI problem, this is a human recklessness problem, and every story about it should be framed that way.

Republicans wanted to destroy the Voting Rights Act. Did they stop just because it seemed impossible? No. And they succeeded. They wanted to get rid of reproductive rights for women. Impossible. They succeeded. They want the President to have a private army, they've succeeded.
So don't tell me how Trump will never see the inside of a jail cell, because I feel like demanding the impossible.

If it costs him votes, I am here for it.
I vaguely recall a Molly Ivins story in which some pol bit into a tamale without removing the corn husk. Texans were unimpressed.

I'm absolutely in favor of arresting the fascist Supreme Court justices and marching them off to jail. Let them be remanded pending their trial before the tribunal.
And I'm letting every Democratic leader who will listen know that I will vote accordingly in the next primary, and the next one after that.

Here's a 2020 article from the New England Journal of Medicine, for those who want carefully vetted info on a previous outbreak of #hantavirus.
The high points for me:
- There's person to person transmission.
- Incubation periods ranged from 9 to 40 days.
- Big social gatherings became super-spreader events.
- Contact tracing and quarantine works.

I'm against the guillotines, but not because I'm too nice or because the fascists need mercy.
I want an undeniable public permanent record of the proof of their criminality. That involves a lengthy trial, witnesses, cross examination. Months of the perpetrators getting up in the morning, changing into a suit to appear in court. Then the next trial, then the next.
And when it's done, no one can pretend they were martyrs.

I've taken the course. I didn't get a gun-nut vibe, just some mild criticism of an assault weapons ban that was implemented badly.
But I take your point. They would have been free to bring in the crazies.

TIL that bumblebees, which I had thought were harmless, are in fact MOSTLY harmless.
Apparently there was a nest in a pile of composted leaves, and disturbing it was just the right amount of provocation.

I've been consistently saying that we need to get rid of gerrymandering *after the fascists are dislodged.* See the thread you quoted.
If we allow the fascists to run the government, it doesn't matter whether we have gerrymandering or not, because there won't be a democracy. I will not be marched off to one of Trump's concentration camps saying "Well, at least we played by the rules." We have to use ALL the means at our disposal to win, including the ruthless ones.

Ranked choice voting gives the correct result. We should have ranked choice in the primary and in the general election. All a jungle primary can do is distort the result.
Members of political parties have the right of free association. If that means anything, it means they should be able to nominate candidates of their choosing. (And yes, with ranked choice voting in place, that should extend to minor parties too.)

I love rhubarb in a strawberry or blueberry pie. I don't try to persuade others to like it, because then I would have to share.
Had a conversation with my spouse this morning, in which we planned what must come out of the freezer to make room for more rhubarb.

We've seen this movie before.
When the Socialist Party had electoral success in state and local elections in the 1930s and 1940s---winning control of several city governments as well as the state legislature of South Dakota---suddenly the major parties decided that nonpartisan ballots should be a thing.

@JoelBarr@mastodon.online, we have to defeat the fascists in the short term to get rid of undemocratic jerrymandering in the medium term. For now, that has to include tactics like California: a partisan jerrymander, approved by voters, that will expire when the emergency is over. I'd also support lots of other ruthless tactics until we have pushed the fascists out of power, and are able to implement a fascism-resistant democracy.

Yes, and I would add that they should be talking to the humans who will be using their work.
I once spent a bunch of time on the embedded software for a system used on an electronics assembly line. There were some moving parts, so I was very careful to put safety warnings in the user interface, e.g., "keep your hands clear."
When I helped install it, I found out that none of the end users were English speakers.

There are plenty of progressive Democrats thinking about a run for President in 2028. Our job is to make sure they hear from us before the primary, and let them know that Trump roaming free is simply an unacceptable outcome.
I don't care whether the trials happen at the Hague or in some new Nuremberg-style tribunal stood up for this specific purpose.
It is simply unrealistic to think that we can defeat fascism without holding fascist criminals to account.

For some reason slugs aren't a big problem in my garden, so I haven't tried this myself, BUT
I hear that it works to lay a wooden plank directly on the soil. Overnight the slugs find their way to the underside. In the morning, flip over the plank, stomp the slugs. Repeat.
I have no idea whether it works at scale.
