Here is an experiment I always do with my books, including the new one. I ordered my own new book through @princetonupress@mastodon.social , Amazon, and Barnes and Nobles to see which one would start shipping first. Princeton shipped two weeks ago. B&N two days ago, Amazon sticks to the pub date schedule. If anyone is interested in actually buying the book use Princeton press website and get 30% off the print edition with TET30 discount code and audiobook edition PUP30 (the audiobook will be released in May)

Just as Natalie Zemon Davis, Emmanuel Le Roy Ladurie, Carlo Ginzburg, and others recovered the voices of the peasants, so, too, scholars of Jewish history and culture have productively mined these reservoirs of evidence to retrieve glimpses of the ordinary lives o

Out in less than a month, an incredible volume on how specific themes have been addressed in Jewish Studies as a field. Mine is a contribution about "Difference and Violence."

@joyce@hcommons.social I would recommend the chapter by Ivan Marcus in a book titled "Cultures of the Jews" edited by David Biale: Marcus, Ivan G. "A Jewish-Christian Symbiosis: The Culture of Early Ashkenaz." In Cultures of the Jews: A New History, edited by David Biale, 448-516. New York: Schocken Books, 2002.

You may also take a look at Baumgarten, Elisheva, Tzafrir Barzilay, and Eyal Levinson. Jewish Everyday Life in Medieval Northern Europe, 1080-1350: A Sourcebook. Kalamazoo: Medieval Institute Publications, Western Michigan University, 2022.

@CitizenWald@historians.social The funny thing about the flag day is that it was recently instituted to give people a longer time off. May 1 used to be a holiday in communist Poland, then after communism May 3 became the "Constitution Day" and a holiday. So May 2 came as a flag day to add patriotism to the long weekend.

@CitizenWald@historians.social How come I did not know he was buried in Georgia? I guess when we studied about him in school in Poland I did not know where Georgia was and never thought about him again, except when cycling across the Pulaski bridge in Long Island City/Greenpoint 😅

@CitizenWald@historians.social Yes, it was an honor and a great occasion to think in a new way about the material I have come to know so well! And it was the last time she attended.
