Vandaag is het 150 jaar geleden dat de voormalige slaafgemaakten in "de west" eindelijk vrij waren. Maar niet gelijk. Die ongelijkheid werkt nog steeds door tot vandaag de dag. Daarom zou 1 juli een nationale feestdag moeten worden.
Trouwens, in delen van "de oost" duurde de slavernij nog gewoon tot in de 20e eeuw... In Nederlands Indië werd de slavernij al in 1860 afgeschaft, maar semi-zelfstandige sultanaten onder Nederlands bewind mochten het zelf bepalen en bij sommige daarvan bleef de slavernij nog bijna een eeuw bestaan...
