Designing for people with low vision isn’t about edge cases. It’s about making content clearer, more usable, and more resilient for everyone.

From contrast and spacing to zoom and reflow, small decisions have a big impact.

@lloydi@mastodon.social has broken down what matters for designers:

The design choices we make, from how we emphasise content to where we position controls, can either empower people to customise their experience or create unnecessary barriers. By understanding these impacts and designing with flexibility in mind, we can create interfaces that

Your website can be accessible while your documents still exclude people.

PDFs are often a big part of how people access information, but accessibility is frequently missed.

Catriona Morrison has put together an introduction to accessible documents. The first in a series where she'll take a deeper dive into design for Microsoft Word (.docx), PDF (.pdf), and EPUB (.epub)

Read all about it here: https://tetralogical.com/blog/2026/05/13/creating-accessible-documents/

Digital documents and book files are a core part of our everyday communication. When documents aren’t accessible, they can exclude people with disabilities from integral learning, information, and content. Publishing accessible documents and book files ensures we can communicate the same information to people with disabilities, making this content accessible to everyone.

Non-visual design anyone?

Next in our "designing for people with disabilities" series we have designing for people who are blind, by Graeme Coleman

If it doesn't work without sight, the design is not right.

When designing products and services, we often think in terms of their visual appearance. However, some people use digital content without being able to see it. This means we need to design interfaces that remain understandable, navigable, and controllable even when people are unable to perceive layout, colour, and spatial clues. By doing so, we ensure designs provide a comparable experience so that people who are blind can complete tasks in a way that suits their needs without undermining the q

All Day Hey! is next week and shaping up to be another good one.

If you’re there, catch Léonie Watson’s talk, Do Androids Dream of Accessible Webs?

She’ll explore how the web is shifting from something we use to something that acts on our behalf as AI systems start making decisions for us.

Using accessibility as a stress test, Léonie looks at where these systems break down, and what that reveals about whether they truly serve people or just optimise for the average.

Do Androids Dream of Accessible Webs?

The web is shifting from something we use to something that acts on our behalf. Agentic AI promises systems that read, decide, negotiate, and optimise for us, but when algorithms become our representative, a deeper question arises: who is it actually representing? Drawing on lessons the web has already learned about mediation, semantics, and proxy-experience, this talk uses accessibility as a stress test for agentic systems. It explores where agents fracture first, and what that reveals about w

User research sometimes involves people in difficult situations, including those dealing with trauma, financial stress, or loss.

It’s not just about getting good data. It’s about making sure people feel safe, respected, and able to take part on their own terms, while researchers are supported to handle those conversations well.

Ela Gorla has shared some key considerations when conducting research:

What’s helped you bring accessibility into the design process earlier?

We’ve shared some thoughts in our latest article, Designing for people with disabilities, and would love to hear what’s worked for you: tools, processes, or cultural changes.

At the heart of inclusive design are people. Not technology, and not standards. Technology is what people use, and standards provide a foundation for access, but inclusive design is shaped by real use, not rule sets.

Anxiety can affect how people process information, make decisions, and interact with digital services.

When interfaces are complex, unpredictable, or high-pressure, they can increase cognitive load and make tasks harder to complete.

In this article, Demelza Feltham explores how thoughtful design can reduce tension and create calmer, more supportive digital experiences.

Most of us will experience anxiety at some point, sometimes triggered by a stressful moment, other times as a chronic condition. By taking thoughtful, intentional steps, we can ensure our designs at the most reduce stress, and the very least, do not contribute to or amplify it further.
