Reminded by @Affienia@mastodon.social that it's the time of year I need to periodically change my profile name. See you in March on the other side of Up Helly Aandy.

I've just chucked oats, honey, sultanas, nuts, and a bunch of other things into a bowl, mixed, then squished onto a tray and in the oven. Does that count as flapjacks? I'm hungry and there are no sweet snacks in the house.
Couldn't get any popcorn from the shop, so its peanuts and chocolate for #Strictly movie week. Cheesy Maverick intro. 😆
Lots of Eivør and Kalandra playing today. I can only assume this is a product of the nights getting darker and me being back in full climate action mode.
Great Climate Café tonight. Made some great connections with people who do everything from build eco-houses to youth outreach and mini painting. All while trying to save our little slice of the planet. 🌍

@Rajiv@infosec.exchange @sundogplanets@mastodon.social Yeah, just looked this up. "a Land Rover Defender" is a good comparison.
edit: Defender == ~2.3 metric tons + 4.5 m x 2 m
Exhausted. But we got the funding.
What a day. And it was great meeting so many like-minded community groups from across Shetland, focused on positive climate action. Made new friends. Swapped knowledge. Embraced enthusiasm. Traded fudge for kale seeds. 😆
I feel uplifted. Like maybe the planet has a chance.
Now, if you don't mind, I'm going to pass out quietly somewhere. 🥱
Community project update!
- We got to the next stage of funding. Which we weren't expecting. I guess my silver tongue did the job. 😂
- Started canvassing local community and so far, feedback has been positive.
- Now working on more community engagement and planning for the big get together where we sell our project to the public.
On which note, see attached! If you just "happen to be in the area", drop in and say hello!
Well, that's my "shit series of books about a child wizard" filter switched back on.
Incorrectly citing my academic references by simply writing "Fuckweasels - Prof. Sam Lawler" in the sidebar of my notes on atmospheric aerosols and albedo. I am such a bad student.
Just had snow. Which was nice.
Early morning 8 km hike over to the east side of the island and back, a few hours ago. Good to decompress after a tough week, and remember where my priorities lie. What is really important to me.
(Also grabbed some sheep bones for my eldest's zoologist partner. Cuz I'm a good Dad. Currently soaking them in 50% bleach solution.)
Need to get my homework done so I can go down the park with my mates.
NOW I know what a carbonaceous chondrite is. 😀 At least in passing. It was touched on in a section of my current studies re: panspermia.
Gotta say I'm really enjoying planetary science. If my maths skills didn't suck, and I thought it would be useful in the last few decades of my working life, I'd consider switching Natural Sciences pathways..
Studied until 7.15pm then did a maths tutorial (spoiler: for a guy who has spent the last three decades plus change as a programmer, I still suck at maths).
I'm about a week ahead of things, and next week is the first major assessment. Tomorrow night off, then I'll work on updating my notes and glossary on Wednesday and Thursday, then off work Friday for Up Helly Aa.
I'm enjoying it. @JoBee@mastodon.art seems happy living with a student 🤣 and I've got my science head back on. It's going pretty well.
This morning's hike cut into study time. Though it was 100% worth it.
I've since ploughed through the good old cell cycle and mitosis, and a few other bits. I don't remember G1 => S => G2 => M phases when I learnt this back in the 80s, it was just "Interphase" and then the mantra (still in my skull after 40 years) of "Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, Telophase, Cytokinesis". Fun stuff though. More cobwebs brushed away. Happy undergrad. 🤣
Signed up for my next OU module. Starts October, finishes June 2027 so I even get next summer off. 😃
Watched "Lost in Starlight" on Netflix with @JoBee@mastodon.art this evening. Can highly recommend if you want some romance, solar/hopepunk, (mostly) hard science, music, and great animation.
Been catching up after realising I'd somehow managed to skip 2/3 of a section of my current study subject. Cuz: pillock. But at least now I know how to weigh a cloud.

@Hellybootwader@mastodon.scot @MacNaBracha@mastodon.scot I was meeting with the council over our community project, so sadly wasn't there. But the local Scottish Greens were, in force, and there was much heckling and protesting, so all good.
I also looked up the local REFUK candidate and he's *checks notes* a junior doctor who lives on the Scottish mainland. Checks out.
Hombadaka Boko! The adventurers FINALLY reached The Smoking Ruin in tonight's RuneQuest session, and my stupidly detailed map (made in Inkarnate, uploaded to FoundryVTT) seemed to be a success.
Great role-playing by the crew back in England. ❤️
Despite some good rolls, I think the comedy highlight of the night was me saying "Surely even you can't screw up a Beast Rune roll?" to the Storm Bull Initiate, moments before the dice came up 00. 🐮
Spent a week in England, in the office.
Have spent the last three days off work sick with something I picked up while I was there.
10/10 experience. First time I've been ill since we moved here 16 months ago. 🫤
Well I just watched "Battle: Montana Part One - Jack Reacher vs. Predamech" on Netflix and it was shit. Do not recommend. And I went in with low expectations.

@Hellybootwader@mastodon.scot Thank you! And H&ICH will be working with the few groups that didn’t achieve the votes to get their funding from other sources, so everyone is a "winner".
@spytfyre@mastodon.scot Hahaha now I can't unsee it.
Played our first few co-op games of Kinfire Delve: Vainglory's Grotto with @JoBee@mastodon.art earlier. Lots more fun with multiple players, and she's pretty sneaky as Asha, the thief/assassin, discarding cards and turning Vainglory's strengths against them. Won one, lost one to bad luck (three Exhaustion Cards that lost us the game). Looking forward to playing more, and the other characters.
