This is part sub-toot, part observation and part my own experience...
I've found Mastodon to be a really vibrant, exciting, engaging, diverse and inspirational platform. BUT, if a person doesn't interact with others on here, they will miss out on a lot!
It's definitely the best platform I've been a part of, because of the people here, the tools available, and the structure of the fediverse as a whole.
But... you DO need to engage to get the best experience.
Disclaimer: This is all just IMO of course

Seriously, I should do an AMA about how AI has affected me, as an independent creator. I think there’s a lot that people just don’t realise!
But I will just be told that I’m wrong, or doing something incorrectly, so I won’t bother.

My son just published his first blog post on @goodenough@mastodon.world Pika!

I’m just so tired of hearing about AI… like really super epic tired of it.

I don’t understand how a brand can claim to be “Cruelty Free” but then NOT be Vegan? How is using animal derived ingredients NOT cruel?

@retrosponge@kind.social I think the elite have decided that it's too expensive to save humanity, so they are just sucking up all the cash to wait it out in their silos @pvonhellermannn@mastodon.green @jakubwiech@bird.makeup
Tofu and Rice for breakfast?🤔

@support@toot.community Sorry to hear that! I totally get it about social media as a whole, and I don’t admin anywhere. Wishing you the best in whatever is next for you! @jelv@mastodon.nl
Wait… are people still using Instagram and other Meta products? *mind seriously blown*

@kathimmel@mstdn.social @retrosponge@kind.social @pvonhellermannn@mastodon.green Agreed. I'm at a loss as to what to do about it though... it feels like shouting into the void now. We are told to be more sustainable, fly less, drive less, but then we see multiple private jets ferrying the 1% around the world, all while investing in planet destroying technologies.

@neatnik@social.lol Honestly, it's becoming increasingly difficult to find companies to support these days. Apple's behaviour has been a disappointment for a while now.
Wow... been away for so long, I feel the need to share my introduction again 😅

@neatnik@social.lol I think it's important for us as users to discuss, especially when it addresses how such content is managed.
I just don't want to see interviews with AI CEOs, Sam Altman telling people how awesome it is, or Elon Musk doing whatever the ***k he's doing.
It's like some kind of crypto bro capitalistic virus invading what is very much an indie space.
Replying to
@retrosponge@kind.social Isn't that why they are deep into AI? Pinning their hopes on that becoming their slaves while the rest of us feed the machine? @pvonhellermannn@mastodon.green @jakubwiech@bird.makeup

@nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social It feels ridiculous that the 1% can have this much influence on the 99%... if only we could do something about it @retrosponge@kind.social @pvonhellermannn@mastodon.green

@neatnik@social.lol “Hi @andycarolan@social.lol! Of the 129 social.lol members who have made public posts with media in the past 7 days, you're ranked #15 with 100% alt-text compliance (on 5 of 5 media attachments).”
Replying to
@neatnik@social.lol I've unfollowed accounts who don't do alt-text. I mean, it's not much to ask in the name of accessibility is it.
Replying to
@neatnik@social.lol I feel that ultimately, your comment of "You can always block, mute, filter, or unfollow anyone who shares content that you don't like, for any reason, and you don't owe anyone an explanation or apology for that." is the best option. @nick@social.smplfi.com

@dawgeth@social.lol Discussion on how to deal with it is fine, but I'm seeing a lot of promoted news stories about it, which I really don't want to see. I get that it's divisive, but I'm seeing no advantages to it's mainstream use that are worth burning the planet over. @neatnik@social.lol
Replying to
@neatnik@social.lol Agreed! I always found the social experience worse on those other other platforms that rely on algorithms! I prefer to choose what I want to see :)

@AncTreat5358@lgbtqia.space The oat milk just adds a bit of extra moisture to the scramble. The powder was just because I wanted to see if it would work lol… which it did. Tofu is already pretty protein-rich, so it was just a small boost :)
Replying to
@idzie@kolektiva.social I've never understood leaf blowers... all they do is redistribute leaves, dirt and everything else, most often making it someone else's problem!
Replying to
@randulo@mastodon.social Oh totally! I get that, people who do that at least need to follow a few accounts to get that experience though. I know of people who arrive here, follow 20 or 30 accounts, rarely post anything, and declare it a ghost town a month later lol.
Replying to
@MichelPatrice@jasette.facil.services Totally! The algorithms appear to give a false sense of how busy an individual's timeline is. Without that, a following-only timeline will be pretty quiet!

@stez@mastodon.design Yeah, people who have family members on often report difficulty in migrating them to other services such as Signal.
