Everyone on Lemmy already knows that Republicans suck; you’re repeatedly preaching to the choir. But even if we magically raptured all Republicans, this would still be a capitalist shithole, so please start thinking bigger.

USAID wasn’t what you think it was, namely a CIA front. And Trump didn’t shut it down so much as move its operations to Marco Rubio’s State Department.

What even was the idea behind the original name? Was “Postmarket” meant to evoke aftermarket, as in an OS you install to replace the original OS that came with your new device?

Socialists aren’t “centrists,” and we’ve been saying this all along and will continue to. The election cycle has nothing to do with it, and it didn’t “work with Kamala,” because there are far too few of us to have had an appreciable effect on the 2024 election. Harris’ campaign lost due to its own unforced errors.

I think that’s just regular scrolling. Doomscrolling (emphasis mine): Doomscrolling is the act of spending an excessive amount of time on digital content (e.g. short-form content, user-generated content, AI-generated content, and news) that elicit negative emotions. The concept was coined around 2018, and became more widespread in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The World Health Organization (WHO) observed that the pandemic was accompanied by widespread misleading information, conspiracy theories, and false reports, which it referred to as an “infodemic”.

The term Holomodor was coined in the late 1980s by Banderite fascists for the specific purpose of equivalating the early 1930s famine with the Holocaust. That’s why one shouldn’t propagate its use.

Instances can either be blocklisted or allowlisted. A given instance must choose one method or the other, and almost all instances choose the former. Hexbear is the only one I know that chose the later. They vet instances individually before allowing them. Keep in mind that the fediverse is not just Lemmy. It would be a lot of work to vet each new fediverse instance that comes along.

Capitalism with a larger social safety net is still capitalism, and it relies on the exploitation of workers in the Global South to function. As the Global North’s capacity to imperialize the Globe South deteriorates, so too does its ability to bribe its own workers at home with treats.

I think we’ll know what to do with the means of production once seized; I wouldn’t worry about that. The tools that will not dismantle the master’s house are the bourgeois democratic ones. We can’t seize the means through their political system. We have to overthrow & replace their system through revolution, not reform.

You’re going about this all wrong. Morality is similar to religion in that it’s make-believe. Good vs. evil discourse is unserious, but most people in bourgeois states take it seriously anyway, as does corporate media. Sure, as long as you insist on misdefining exploitation in that way, then by your self-serving definition, modern China is just as exploitative as the imperial core. That’s the definition the imperial core wants to promote, because if they can’t look good, they can at least claim that their enemy is just as bad. But the majority of the world isn’t buying the hogwash that the always the same map minority are pushing.

Somehow you’re still ignoring how those Euro-American exchanges occurred under duress, at the point of a gun. Buying raw materials at a freely-agreed upon price, and then applying labor to them to create a finished good, is not exploitation. No one was coerced into anything. Where are China’s guns? In China. The US has over 800 overseas military installations, while China has one, an anti-piracy port in Djibouti.
