@tdp_org@mastodon.social That’s great news! Not in the UK personally, but follow the tech side of BBC with interest, and definitely excited to see more IPv6 adoption :>

@hexaitos@social.jnpw.net I think that would be macOS 26. There's apparently _some_ support left in macOS 27, but it's not generic https://developer.apple.com/documentation/apple-silicon/about-the-rosetta-translation-environment/

@ret@furry.engineer This! I want to learn stuff, how all of these setups work, what's inside. Even for something as mundane as, say, traffic lights.

@ret@furry.engineer I think it's also about areas of interest. I'm nerdy about tech, so these random "boxes", cables make me wonder what they're for and how they work. See anything more unusual than a TV or a mobile antenna "ooh, wonder what that's receiving/transmitting". Most people don't. At the same time I care comparatively less about, say, flowers and trees, as pretty as they are. (I guess I take those for granted, I know)

@hexaitos@social.jnpw.net Caught the end of the stream, looks and sounds really good! And concur with Colin, you have a very clean/professional voice :D

@Ninji@wuffs.org mp3PRO was very much a thing :D https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mp3PRO

@Daojoan Even these got ruined nowadays. RSS feeds often don't have the full article text. Email contains tracking pixels and links. "Blogs" have texts behind paywalls and cookie warnings. We need the old web back.

@sylvia_ritter@mastodon.social This is seriously cool, well done!

@darth@silversword.online Wonder if all the compute that currently goes to slop generators will eventually go towards this

@Equinox@squawk.social Mobile data is routed through your home network, so if you check your IP, it'll show up as Netherlands :>

@gedeonm "Tobogganing" is also pengus sliding on their bellies!

@pheonix Thank you for this write-up! Similar trend as with CPU and RAM. We have a lot more compute nowadays, so let's spend it a lot less efficiently (ugh). This made me wonder though, how much of this bloat disappears if you start paying? Do they still shove ads and autoplay videos in your face? (I don't have high hopes here)

@keirFox Perhaps stating the obvious, but the fact that just viewing a directory in a file browser overwrites something in it (that doesn't get flushed to disk on force shutdown) is scary, and I wonder why it's doing it. Bug or intentional? I'd understand if it corrupted the thumbnail cache that's separate from the originals, but overwriting the originals is suspicious.

@piecritic Iconfactory (@Iconfactory) come to mind, apparently they even have representation in Stockholm

@thefranke @Daojoan Didn't know about (1), that's brilliant, thanks! I made some custom RSS exporters for myself as well for sites that don't have a feed :>

@fivetonsflax There is no motorcycle.

@mdstevens0612@mas.to @aks@fedi.akselmo.dev Darn NAT is making things complicated. #IPv6 was supposed to solve this, but we're nowhere near enough adoption, especially in the gaming space.

@samuelcolvin A little bit of feedback about the landing page, if I may. Most likely I'm just an idiot, but I originally thought Logfire is OpenAI-specific, as LLM took my attention away from the tabs lower down. Wondering if it'd make any sense to make LLM a dropdown, for example.

@fj@mastodon.social This is both a very useful effort, and a well written article (love when tech companies go into the nitty-gritty). Great job!

@dannotdaniel@mastodon.social @mdstevens0612@mas.to @aks@fedi.akselmo.dev Port forwarding is a problem, but not the main problem. I'm thinking more of CGNAT, where the user doesn't have a public IP in the first place.

The state of #RCS centralisation is quite sad: out of 87 carrier bundles in #iOS 27.0 beta 4 that indicate RCS support, 74 use Google Jibe. A large benefit of the traditional telephony, SMS/MMS messages etc is that they're not centralised, one generally has multiple carriers in the area that can act as redundant options. RCS is largely provided by a single entity :/ #Apple

@thefranke @Daojoan I use NetNewsWire, and it also allows this per-feed, as it turned out. Immediately enabled on the offenders.

@thefranke @Daojoan A custom Python thing, I write in what I'm familiar with. But I'm open to porting it if it can benefit more people :>

@thefranke @Daojoan Wasn't familiar with it until now, thank you for sharing! Don't know how interested they would be in a plugin for a very local website, but could be a fun little project :>

#macOS 27 release is the same build number as release candidate (26A428) #iOS 27 release is a newer build (24A435 -> 24A437) #Apple

@WooShell@chaosfurs.social *with strong penguin accent* Mrrow!

@bearlionx@furries.club @creideiki@akkoma.xn--pikabl-0xa.se @ret@furry.engineer Ooh, that looks interesting, thanks! :>

@osnews@mstdn.social With there being mobile phone farms that generate fake views and social media engagement, I figure those can as well be used to solve these kind of attestation-based captchas.
