RE: https://mastodon.quebec/@lapresse/117310219149109490 For those who don't read French: Putin gets the USA to buy potash from Bellarus instead of from Canada.

Carney: Iran is the biggest threat in the world today. Me: The United States is the biggest threat in the world today.

That Microsoft and Google cut off service to the ICC and staff is definitely a huge red alert. Both companies get a huge chunk of revenues from abroad and heoperdizing it to please the emperor's dementia-driven temper tantrums. There are truly no guard rails and it isn't just for nuclear codes, but even large megacorps are now endangering their own business to coply with the emperor.

"Canada and partners recognize the direct threat to peace posed by the Israeli government's endorsement of the E1 settlement scheme , and with reluctance, we hacve announced out *intentions* to bring forward trade restrictions targetting goods produced in those illegal Israeli settlements". Nice words, but no impact, If those settlements are residential instead of industrial, so the intention to eventually consider a committee to recomment trade sanctions has NO effect.

Carney: ion the past, we didn't have all those regulations and were able to build big stuff like the CPR across country or the St Lawrence seaway. So I ask: how many died buillding the CPR ? How many humans from China saw their rights violated when hired to work on the CPR in Western Canada? Regulations are there for a reason.

Carney: the loose Canada-EU alliance is structured to allow others to join,

@EdwinG@mstdn.moimeme.ca You OK ?

@dyckron@cosocial.ca Alberta has a disctinct society: OIL. And with plans to end oil, they would very much want to become independant so they dont have to adopt any climate related regulations and drill like the USA. Consider how seriously Carney took it: he sabotaged his own climate fighting philosophgy to please Alberta and try to defuse separatist sentiments. Had Canada insisted Albert change direction and ween itself from fossil fuels you'd see much stronger separation sentiments.

RE: https://mstdn.social/@mtlgazette/117298350832715255 The Gazette article adds an important tidbit to the planned VIA white elephant station at Dorval: it will be north of the tracks, on Cardinal, instead of being in the Dorval circle. That might leave the existing STM/EXO bus/train station functional. (except for disruption during construction). The artist rendering doesn't make sense. Why a 2 story building? And why not integrate it with the existig urban setting instead of magical forest?

@EdwinG@mstdn.moimeme.ca The 214 was designed lo link the airport to the Dorval STM/EXO terminus, except they don't actuallyt serve the airport :-) I blame YOU for having pointed me to the STM new web site and tested this particular bus line :-)

Question: Is Trump going to far by announcing his willingness to eradicate Iran? Carney: There is a war going on right now, Trump speaks the language of war. As a citizen, I see this as supporting Trump's illegal attack on Iran.

Carney at UN press conference has become a true politician, speaking carefully to ensure he says nothing. Macro was able to speak diplomatically while making sustantial statements and attacks against Trump. Carney said nothing substantial. I want Mamdani as Prime Minister of Canada.

With all of Bell Camada's bragging, it only has 3 sites in Cape Breton with 5G, and still many sites with only 3G. But most are LTE. #CRTC

@dbattistella@mstdn.ca The UN fact finding found genocide and starvation perpetrated by Israel. Vetoed by USA. Watch this presentation by Inger Ashing (Save the Children) to Security Council from Aug 27 2025 https://webtv.un.org/en/asset/k1r/k1r5l4e20f?kalturaStartTime=1702&config[playback]={"audioLanguage":"en"}&config[ui]={"locale":"en"} "Inaction is a choice, indecision is complicity, children have reached their breaking point, where is yours?" Anyone, including Ed Sheeran who punishes those who wish to defend Palestinians is worse than inaction/indecision

@TrueNorthSpice@mastodon.world @dyckron@cosocial.ca If a homeless person is a smoker or heavy drinker and shelters have rules against smoking or drinking, then that homeless person isn't interested in accepting a free home in a shelter. But you can't start allowing people to smoke/drink in such a shelter for safety reasons.

@dyckron@cosocial.ca It isn't "pay to play corruption". It is "government as a service". Hire Donald Trump to get your needs seen to by government very fast without having to deal with that pesky Congress and regulating agencies. It is a very efficient service. No need to spend years of legal fees in appeal courts for a pardon, just give Donald $15m and you are free the next day. That is very efficient government :-) Businesses get stuff done for cheaper and faster by paying Trump directly.

RE: https://flipboard.com/@bbcnews/top-stories-hc55lmo2z/-/a-z3msAoH-SNqDVN1u7Q8rtg%3Aa%3A3199692-%2F0 Never ever stop once you have engaged a rail crossing. The barriers are designed to break to let someone out. (In this case it appears the driver engaged crossing before barruiers started to go down, but he shoudl have never slowed donw/stopped.)

@binford2k@hachyderm.io @jackdaniyel@mastodon.social I had seen that linnk to arcgis, but map won't laod on my browser. It gets stuck at "zone lookup", probably because it expects me to provide my position which I don't have on my desktop. It does work on my phone though. in an emergency, KISS matters. Provide a PDF or even a JPG file on top of the fancy arcgis.

@evdelen@mstdn.ca @dyckron@cosocial.ca You'r getting this wrong. They will label self checkout as "express check out" and charge a fee for using the premium faster check out :-) Where there is insufficient competition, companies have "fee departments" who hire creative forlks to come up with new fees. Bell Canada is world renowned for creating new fees like that.

On the day Spokane burned down due to climate change. The asshole emperor speaks of radical climate activists.

@evan@cosocial.ca have good trip and conference.

""I just can't put the exact type of system back," Rick Leary said of Moodie station. "That means going at a redesign."" https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/ottawa-city-hall-election-2026-9.7321168?utm_source=flipboard&utm_medium=activitypub Excuse me??? What you need is better drainage around the area, not a redesign of the station. What you need is a culvert under tracks to let water flow from one side to the other. I don't understand why they would have to "redesign Moodie Station" and delay opening by a year.

@EdwinG@mstdn.moimeme.ca BTW, once I took bus from conference venue to airport, got a paper transfer from the driver. At the Air Canada gate, instead of presenting my boarding pass, I presented the bus transfer. The face of gate agent was priceless :-)

@EdwinG@mstdn.moimeme.ca I know I took the LRT in Calgary, but can't remember how I got from airport to hotel. Have taken bus from Winnipeg airport to hotel though. Took buses from UBC to Expo86 40 years ago, took bus from Vancouver to North Van to catch the ski train to Whistler in 1988. And buses from downtown to airport back then.

@EdwinG@mstdn.moimeme.ca When ETHI committee held their Grand committee meeting on Cambridge Analytica/disinformation with MPs from around the world, they splurged and catered the meeting room ! At at the reception at night, there was even the house wine ! This was 2019. The speakers list was a worldwide whos-who or privacy advocates and no-shows by Facebook and others. Apple did send someone though.

@EdwinG@mstdn.moimeme.ca curious if it was a conscious decision to retask your train, or whether the "system" lots situational awareness when rebooting and retasked all trains based on some sequential order.

@EdwinG@mstdn.moimeme.ca Where is the train now heading? Tuktoyaktuk? Iqaluit? Or L'anse à l'Orme in the far west ?

@EdwinG@mstdn.moimeme.ca The Hydro Québec substation is rather critical for the area. There is a big building from which aeroplanes take off and land that gets fed (partly) by the Dorval substation. And it isn't easy to move due to where highway, tracks and airport are located. Right now, the VIa and EXO stations have direct access to the Dorval circle. If VIA forces STM away from it, it wrecks a whole lot of bus lines and ceases to make sense of it. A new station west of existing one needs its on tunnel.

@EdwinG@mstdn.moimeme.ca MTR in Hong Kong is private, yet they provide public transportation.

@EdwinG@mstdn.moimeme.ca Normally, a bank issues credit card to a person without VISA's permission. VISA doesn't know about it nor does it have access to her account. They just see a credit card transaction whose first 5 digits point to a certain bank. What is also possible is that she got added to a black list and member banks check every new customer against it so that would explain why she can't get a VISA or Mastercard.

@Milnoc@mstdn.ca Are you watching these air disaster videos in preparation for your upcoming trip ? 😉

@EdwinG@mstdn.moimeme.ca "there is a chance the refrigerator may be damaged by the rapid change" really ? Just putting your phone in the fridge would damage the fridge? :-) Omitted from article: phones wth waterproofing levels such as IP67 etc shoudln.t really be getting hot humid air inside. But yes, when you take it out, you will get condensation on the outside of phone and lens, but IP67 should prevent that inside.

@EdwinG@mstdn.moimeme.ca I've been meaning to ask this. When at a station at say the front end of where the train will be (and thus far from any screen), how does one know where that train is going when it pulls in?

@EdwinG@mstdn.moimeme.ca Where did the train you were on and which switched to AaO destination end up going after you got off the train?

@EdwinG@mstdn.moimeme.ca There are mini buses equipped with the ramps to lift people in wheelchairs into it.

@VE2UWY@mastodon.radio @EdwinG@mstdn.moimeme.ca Albert de Niverville has been one constant at airport. Though you lost ability to go fro. Main loop (Romeo Vachon) tio it, the street remained instant. Why is why I am surprised the bus line designed to serve it does not serve it. It serves only the last remaining cargo facility at airport complex.

@EdwinG@mstdn.moimeme.ca "Card or Credit Card means each personal RBC Royal Bank Visa credit card and RBC Royal Bank Mastercard credit card we issue to you or an Authorized User" The "we" in "we issue to you" is the key here. It is the Royal bank that issues the credit card to you. And any transaction made on it end up processed by a royal bank computers against your account them. It is also the Royal Bank which authorizes any transaction since only they know if card valid and < limit.

@EdwinG@mstdn.moimeme.ca The multi day ETHI meeting was unique in that it was full day , for a couple of days, whereas normal committee meetings are just 2 maybe 3 hours tops. One day had to be in different building on Queen street because the main room had already been booked.

@EdwinG@mstdn.moimeme.ca I am curious about bus maintenance for the paratransport servcices. STM has no facilities to maintain the EXO buses (and I assume south shore ones).

@EdwinG@mstdn.moimeme.ca The project to get rid of the roundabout had been launched by MTQ, but when Turcot became emergency, was abandonned and was zapped from all records. (the access roads from 20 direct to airport were part of project and only things that got done). "that bus" is what remains of our express buses to downtown, so they are quite important, and connect with p,enty of buses at the dorval terminal. Aso buses from Lachine that arrive via Boul Bouchard at the circle.

@EdwinG@mstdn.moimeme.ca Departure screens are too far and not visible/readable from every door position. And the train does not have any indication facing you when doors open.

Pic is in in July, Pic 2 is August 5 There is a creek that flows under the road to the river and the culvrt probvably wasn't enough so water found another way closer to the Rye Principale.

@EdwinG@mstdn.moimeme.ca Modern times: It used to be "I was *in* a meeting all day". But with webcams, this now becomes "on a meeting" Advantage of "*in* a meeting all day" is that it would often be catered so participants didn't have to waste 2 hours for lunch outside. (and staff get the leftovers when lunch is done :-)

@Milnoc@mstdn.ca Preliminary Report Accident involving Air India’s B787-8 aircraft bearing registration VT-ANB at Ahmedabad on 12 June 2025 https://aaib.gov.in/What's%20New%20Assets/Preliminary%20Report%20VT-ANB.pdf This is the one with fuel switch turned off just afer takeoff.

@EdwinG@mstdn.moimeme.ca instead of stations on stilts, just don't hire SNC Lavalin to do important work.

@EdwinG@mstdn.moimeme.ca You S Eh? gets mmWave bands ,while rest of world doesn't. Apple is the new kid on the block for cellular modems and my guess still dependent on its foe Qualcomm for that tech, but uses its inferior modems for rest of world.

@EdwinG@mstdn.moimeme.ca Well airplanes are public transit and surely they accept a transfer if you were on the bus less than 2 hours ago? :-)
