a) one would reasonably expect an smtp library to have a default behavior on if not supplied; and
b) one would expect not to cause an inbound email to be quarantined
one can in fact be surprised that:
a) smtplib (python) doesn't automatically set the msg["Date"] header.... if it isn't supplied; and
b) one mailserver somewhere (docker-mailserver) quarantines those emails without a Date header, which is a behavior this one hasn't observed on any other mail client...
(c.f. the "it wasn't dns" post from earlier)
(once more hosting our hackspace's email leads to "funny" edge cases)
