.@gedeonm@mastodon.social is a very big reason this Mastodon instance (sackettalum.net) and Rogueport Media LLC exist. why we have a roadmap internally at Rogueport to kill our X accounts in the near future. why i work on the projects i work on to begin with. he’s not the only reason, but a big reason. so believe me, i’m amplifying his post because i believe in him and Iconfactory. i’ve been using their things since i was 15—and i’m 24 now.
@gruber@mastodon.social missed the point. he’s wrong. “X” (which Musk can’t even trademark, btw) crippled my friend’s company and the livelihood of him, his family, and those he works with. it destroyed many others’ too. how the fuck is it fair to get on your blog and declare “X” is the be-all, end-all—that “X” is the place where things happen—that “X” is free from Musk’s grasp because he seems ‘bored’ (when he’s still heavily involved in day-to-day at “X”), and the ‘stink’ (paraphrase) that it held? when it’s most certainly fucking not by a long shot.
it doesn’t fucking matter what happens on that site, the numbers could be super fan-fucking-tastic on there compared to here! who the fuck cares?! as long as a fascist-loving billionaire owns it. Gruber’s assessment is moronic—it’s a right-wing platform controlled by a Trump supporter. period. end of discussion.
look, some of us can’t avoid using the damn thing. some of us do social monitoring for work, like i do. but like i said, there’s a plan to kill our accounts internally at our LLC, and i think that goes for a lot of people.
but there’s one promise i’m going to make here: i will stand by Iconfactory, Tapbots, and every other developer who lost their damn livelihoods when Elon Musk bought the company and took a shotgun to everything. if you think i’m going to defend your bullshit takes, you’re wrong.
i do this for my friends and fellow developers first, always.
Quoting
Actually I won’t hold my tongue. Elon Musk single handedly killed my company’s most popular and lucrative app overnight without warning. His actions crippled us to the point where we’re still struggling to survive today. As long as he owns Twitter I won’t be back on X.
I don’t care which Apple execs or anyone else who’s on there. I don’t care there are 10x more “people” there than on the Fediverse. Even if it becomes socially acceptable to support Musk’s X I sure won’t.
