vincent price is pretty good at pulling a dead guy face, but overall these are some of the least convincing violent murders ever put to film

speaking from considerable experience of "there is a bat in the bedroom" scenarios, that was way too easy a catch.

me now: hackers is an unrealistic film because it believes that good things are possible and hacker culture is on the side of downtrodden and the earth and it's great

what's the thing you have learned the most about just kind of ambiently by being on here?
i think it's fair to say that https://theonion.com/i-work-very-hard-and-i-would-like-to-try-cake/ is at least tied with "guy in philosophy class needs to shut the fuck up" as far as onion articles go. the headline here isn't necessarily better, but as a whole artifact...

@darius@friend.camp and like i absolutely should take this as a cue to distribute crackpot newsletters on paper and get way into woodworking, but i admit i've having a real hard time letting it go.

@darius@friend.camp this has just crushed my will to write anything in (networked) public, which since my late teens was this whole defining thing about how i saw myself and my work. was i a _good_ writer? i mean, no false modesty here, but who the fuck knows. maybe i was getting better. either way, i was a writer and it was most of my power to do anything in the world. and it's just... gone.

it's kinda remarkable the percentage of the stuff that was taught as best practice when i was starting out programming in earnest that has wound up like this.

it is an absurdity that the pollen helmet does not exist. we can have murder robots and evil rocketship magnates and 90 degree days in february but not a pollen helmet? are you fucking kidding me?

i have this neighbor whose grasp on reality is somewhat worse than tenuous who tells me sometimes how the chemtrails are going to kill every tree on the planet within five years and a) this is obviously untrue and b) this would of course be bad, but i have my moments of thinking "but if there was no more pine pollen perhaps i would be free"
might have to do all the grasses just to be safe
