mastodon 4.7.3This is the news-and-announcements account for Masto.NYC, a regional Mastodon server for the New York metro area.
Named after Warren Mastodon, our server’s cute and chill mascot. 🦣
We are proud to announce that masto.nyc now has its own Android App! This is a fork from the mainline Mastodon that is a bit more tailored to the Masto NYC experience. Give it a try and we would love to hear any feedback!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nyc.masto.android
- This app is complementary to the greater Fediverse app ecosystem. Using it isn't, and never will be a requirement to use masto.nyc
- iOS is also in the works
Hey everyone! Expect some downtime tonight as we upgrade to 4.7.0- there are a lot of breaking changes we are going to be careful with.
Edit: we good 😎
Come visit our table at #hope26 and grab some Masto.NYC stickers! :warren_liberty:
Hi, neighbors! We're looking for a volunteer to help staff our table at @hopeconf@mastodon.online in Midtown #NYC this weekend. If you can commit to chatting about Fedi and giving out Masto.NYC swag for a few hours on two days, you'll get a HOPE attendee badge.
If you're interested, reply to this toot or email us at help@masto.nyc. We'd especially love to get help from active Masto.NYC users, but we'll gratefully accept assistance from anyone who loves Mastodon!

Credit as always goes to @MK@masto.nyc (now on the fediverse!) for the awesome work!
Hello, #NYC! We at Masto.NYC are gonna host our first community meetup next week:
Wednesday, July 9
6 - 8 PM
Torch & Crown Brewing Company
20 Union Square
We'll have stickers for sure, and maybe some other goodies, too. Meet Masto.NYC folks! Order a personally compatible beverage and chat about Mastodon and NYC and the future of non-profit, billionaire-free social networks!
Hope to see you there. :warren_liberty:
Scammers are creating accounts on this server and others pretending to be administrators, trying to trick people into clicking malware or phishing links. These messages are often under the pretense of "verifying your account". They are all bogus, and dangerous.
If you receive or even see a message like this, whether it's coming from Masto.NYC or any other server, please report it immediately. The only Masto.NYC admin or news accounts are @jmac@masto.nyc, @seano@masto.nyc, and @warren@masto.nyc. (That's me!)
Hi neighbors,
Changes in the national political landscape will never affect our commitment to providing free, local, non-commercial social media services to the brave and beautiful communities of #NYC.
We're privileged to live and work in the greatest city on earth, and it's in our mission to help New Yorkers stay connected and strong during times of uncertainty.
Thanks for being part of it. We’ll be right here. https://5BFP.org
This is happening tonight! Look for the table with the Mastodon plushie wearing an I ❤️ NY T-shirt!

Hullo, neighbors! We’ve put together our first survey of Masto.NYC users: just a few questions to take temperature about how well the server's been treating you, ways that we can improve, and a straw poll or two about other activities. Very grateful for all responses submitted by Friday, February 7! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdUtxIncjphEaGL-_A3JvIEM4dnD8WC71u07vykXzlnE_2-aA/viewform?usp=dialog
@gbargoud@masto.nyc You can indeed set your Mastodon account to auto-delete your posts after a ceratin time limit! https://fedi.tips/deleting-posts-automatically-in-mastodon-after-a-certain-time-period/
But rest assured that it's not local users' content that fills up our hard drive—it's *everyone else’s*. The fediverse is a big place!
We admins need to automate some regular cleanup of all that fetched remote data, is all.
Expect a bit of intermittent downtime tonight, we're testing out some new load balancing capabilities!
